Femoral head and neck excision
نویسنده
چکیده
Kenneth A. Johnson recommendation in every textbook description. A cadaveric study published in this issue of the Journal compared two methods of osteotomy (2). The authors found that use of a sagittal saw produced a smoother ostectomy surface in comparison to the use of an osteotome, which more often produced bone fissures and fragmentation (2). The findings of this study provide an impetus to further evaluate the outcome in clinical patients, using objective measures. Since it is unlikely that availability of total hip arthroplasty will ever eliminate the need for salvage procedures such as femoral head and neck excision, there is a need for more outcomedriven research to evaluate the influence of a range of factors on the success of the procedure, such as surgical technique, surgeon skill, patient factors, and postoperative rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of femur positioning on radiographic assessment of completeness of excision after femoral head and neck excision (FHNE) in medium to large breed dogs. SAMPLE POPULATION 10 femurs from canine cadavers (body weight > 20 kg). PROCEDURE Complete FHNE was performed on 5 canine femurs. Excision consisting of inadequate removal of the medial distal aspect of the f...
متن کاملEffects of Hip Geometry on Fracture Patterns of Proximal Femur
Background: Some studies have previously shown that geometry of proximal femur can affect the probability of fracture and type of fracture. It happens since the geometry of the proximal femur determines how a force is applied to its different parts. In this study, we have compared proximal femur’s geometric characteristics in femoral neck (FNF), intertrochanteric (ITF) and Subtrochanteric (ST...
متن کاملTransoral Resection of Giant Parapharyngeal Space Tumors via a Combined Surgical Approach
Introduction: Parapharyngeal space (PPS) tumors account for 0.5% of the head and neck neoplasms. Based on the evidence, 80% of these tumors are of a benign nature. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice for this condition. The present study was conducted to propose transoral resection as an efficient way to excise the benign well-defined tumors of the PPS. Materials and Methods: Thi...

Background and Objective: Arthrosis of the hip joint is one of the most common complications of patients and many efforts have been made to find its etiology. One of the subjects important for researchers is morphologic parameters of the hip joint and its relationship with osteoarthritis of this joint. Since these parameters themselves are affected by physical parameters of the body and the rac...
